Constructed by the prestigious Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, SS France was designed to captivate the French jetset, drawing glamorous film stars and celebrities to her decks. Launched on her maiden voyage in 1962, she sailed during a time when ocean liners faced declining demand due to the rise of faster airplanes. Nevertheless, SS France remained a celebrated national French icon. Decommissioned in the 1970s, her legacy continued after an extensive conversion transformed her into the NCL cruise ship Norway. As Norway, she enjoyed a long second career, delighting passengers until 2004, when she was sold for scrap, marking the end of her storied journey.
