Constructed by the prestigious Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, SS France was designed to captivate the French jetset, drawing glamorous film stars and celebrities to her decks. Launched on her maiden voyage in 1962, she sailed during a time when ocean liners faced declining demand due to the rise of faster airplanes. Nevertheless, SS Franceremained a celebrated national French icon, undiminished in allure and prestige. Decommissioned in the 1970s, her transatlantic era concluded, but her legacy endured. After an extensive conversion, she was reborn as the NCL cruise ship Norway, embarking on a long second career filled with entertainment for her passengers. In 2004, Norway was sold for scrap, marking the end of her remarkable journey.
