The SS Ile-De-France, one of the first large ocean liners built after World War I, quickly became a favorite among younger, modern travelers. While her exterior was not groundbreaking, her interiors were exquisitely designed in the stunning Art Deco style. During World War II, she served as a troop transport ship, and afterward underwent an extensive rebuild to align with contemporary design trends. Her third dummy funnel was removed, and the remaining two were replaced with sleek, streamlined funnels, giving her a refreshed, modern look. Despite her age, the SS Ile-De-France continued to offer luxurious transatlantic voyages until her retirement in 1959. Her legacy endures as a beautiful example of Art Deco design and a testament to the era’s innovation and artistic craftsmanship.
